I am pleased to be running the Marine Corps Marathon with my cousin Sarah as part of Team LUNGevity. Sarah's wife, Julie, was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016. I am grateful beyond measure that Julie is doing well now. As a lifelong endurance athlete, I am thrilled that I can use my favorite activity (running!) as a way to give back to a foundation that has been very helpful to Sarah and Julie's family.
The LUNGevity foundation is firmly committed to having an immediate impact on increasing quality of life and survivorship of people with lung cancer by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments, as well as providing community, support, and education for all those affected by the disease. As an academic, I am well aware of the need for research dollars. As a human being, I can appreciate the value of community, support, and education for families fighting life-threatening illnesses. I would be incredibly grateful if you would consider helping me meet my fundraising goal. Just like every step in a race is one step closer to the finish line, every penny is one step closer to a cancer cure. Thank you so very much for your consideration.
